Project Description

The SmartGNSS project aims to develop and implement a novel GNSS-based IoT system for high-precision geospatial monitoring. This system will be validated through two cross-border pilot actions:

  1. Real-time Geodetic Monitoring of Landslides, and
  2. Agricultural Optimization via Drones.

The system offers low maintenance, high customization, and redundancy, enabling precise data collection and corrections via cellular, LoRa, and radio links. By addressing challenges in terrain stability and agricultural productivity, the project will enhance disaster risk management and support more sustainable agricultural practices across Montenegro, Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Project Overview

SmartGNSS – GNSS-based IoT System for Smart Monitoring of Landslides and Agriculture Applications is a cross-border project focused on the development and pilot implementation of an advanced GNSS/IoT monitoring system for two key application areas: landslide monitoring and precision agriculture.

The project addresses the need for reliable, continuous and cost-effective monitoring solutions that can support early detection of terrain movements, improved risk assessment, and better decision-making in agriculture. By combining GNSS technologies, IoT communication, cloud-based data processing and geospatial analysis, SmartGNSS aims to demonstrate how smart monitoring systems can contribute to safer infrastructure, more resilient communities and more efficient agricultural practices.

The pilot activities will focus on the deployment and validation of GNSS-based monitoring equipment, collection and analysis of field data, and demonstration of practical use cases relevant for landslide-prone areas and agricultural production.

Project Partnership

SmartGNSS is implemented by a cross-border partnership composed of three SMEs from Montenegro, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. MoDrone acts as the Lead Partner, responsible for overall project coordination, technical development, implementation of the GNSS/IoT monitoring system, pilot deployment and communication with relevant stakeholders. Geographica contributes to geospatial analysis, mapping, GIS-based interpretation of monitoring data and support in defining the spatial context for the project’s pilot activities. Gauss contributes to technical implementation, field validation, data processing and the integration of monitoring outputs into practical use cases related to landslide monitoring and precision agriculture. Through this partnership, SmartGNSS combines expertise in GNSS technologies, IoT systems, geospatial data, environmental monitoring and applied digital solutions for risk reduction and smart agriculture.
